Puzzle Designer: Jasen Robillard
Dimensions: 41.5 cm x 30 cm
Piece Count: 490
Difficulty: 4 out of 5
This puzzle features one of Roland Gissing's favorite scenes: a tranquil forest setting covered in fresh snow, with the magic hour sunset glow casting a hazy golden light on tree branches and the edges of a flowing creek. Whimsies feature the Gissing family brand, typical winter activities (skiing, snowshoeing, snowflakes) as well as animals & birds commonly found wintering in southern Alberta.
Born in England in 1895, Roland Gissing arrived in Canada during the spring of 1913. Eventually Gissing established a homestead in 1919 at the confluence of the Ghost and Bow Rivers, west of Cochrane, Alberta. His art reflects the vastness of the West's rolling foothills and the majesty of the Rocky Mountains. As a result, Roland Gissing has become one of Western Canada's most popular landscape painters.

Sunset Glow
I did not think a very large cross country skier could be a puzzle piece but when the time came it slid right in and disappeared into the scenery along with the snowshoer and assorted forest animals and birds. The snowflakes, wild rose, horse and sleigh were delightful whimsies and the puzzle itself was a beautiful peaceful scene . I loved it!!
“Glowing” review
I do puzzles without looking at the picture so the first time particularly is challenging. This puzzle was the perfect size and challenge for my taste, and I still have found it challenging to do in subsequent constructions. The whimsies are great and as always relevant to the puzzle’s image. It’s a great painting too - a great puzzle.
Urban treehouse
I loved how uniquely the pieces are cut. You think you know the shape you're trying to find and it's nothing like what you thought. They are so well made. I'll pull it again in a year as I don't think you'll ever find it "easy" to put together. I've already purchased my next challenge.
