Given our Canadian roots, it seemed only right to have a winter sports and hockey themed puzzle within the StumpCraft portfolio! When Katerina contacted me last year, I thought Another Goal would be a perfect fit.
Katerina is a self-taught artist based out of Ottawa. Her clear passion for family and children shine through in her colourful and vibrant "naive" expressionist art. Her work has been featured regularly on cards, calendars and stamps for Unicef & the Canadian Lung Association and her originals can be found in many galleries across the country.
Puzzle piece design for Another Goal was focused on outdoor winter activities, particularly hockey and skating. You will find several multi-piece whimsies including many hockey players and a Zamboni. The multi-piece whimsy designs make the whimsies fairly stealthy and the puzzle quite challenging - only the keenest eye will find them all. He shoots, he scores!

Beautiful complex puzzle
This puzzle was a Christmas gift for my son. He organized a party with his cousins and amazingly they completed the puzzle in about 5 hours. It is beautifully made and quite complex and we will be purchasing more wooden puzzles in the future.
My Most Favourite Puzzle
Having recently retired, I started doing puzzles going on 4 years now. I generally like the 1,000 piece ones concentrating on ones that depict old cars, warplanes, country scenes. I received the puzzle "Another Goal by Katerina Mertikas" as a Christmas gift and the first thing I noticed when I opened the box was the smell of freshly cut wood. Given the black colour on the edge of each pice, I was wondering if they were made out of black ash. I found when I put the pieces together, they matched up perfectly with each other. I noticed you had to put them together from above rather than on the side like conventional puzzles as pieces often had a ridge that locked into the next piece. One thing that fooled me was that just because a piece had a flat edge, I assumed that it was an edge piece. That through me for awhile thinlking I needed to put the edge and corner pieces toghether first, just like a regular puzzle. When I figured this was not the case, things went together a bit more smoothly. I could not find a dimension to the puzzle anywhere on the box, so it was a bit difficult trying to figure how big the finished puzzle would be. It was a bit more difficult to put together than your average 1,000 piece puzzle even thouh it has 434 pieces. I really like this puzzle. By far, this is my favourite that I put together based on the uniqueness and quality of the pieces, the challenge and the satisfaction of hearing that 'klunk' when two pices fit together. I had only 1 piece that was a struggle fitting in , so I had to undo the 3 adjoined ones to make it fit. No big deal there. I gave it a rating of 4 or 4-1/2 if that was offered, as I believe a 5 is an artificial rating by those who were compensated in some way, or had other gains, but that is just my opinion. The price is a bit steep, but not knowing the manufacuring process or the engineering that went into this, it might justify the price. I don't know, so I won't knock the rating because of this. I will give this product my two thumbs up.
Very interesting and creative
Loved this puzzle and the creative pieces to look for while working on it. Great for having out with the family at Christmas time.
A good degree of difficulty which made it the perfect project for family time during our Christmas gatherings. Kids and hockey - so very pleasingly Canadian. Like re-reading a good book, I can’t wait to do it again!
